Tonight's State of the Union Address is being hailed with great anticipation by Liberal morons of all types; the Feminists, the anti-Capitalists, the atheists. They all have their greedy little paws out, hoping for the Federal Government to throw some special gifts their way.
There are some terrible ideas that all Leftists share, though, and here is what they're looking for from the Big O tonight.
12-Weeks of Paid Maternity Leave
Liberals achieved a major victory in the early 1990s when Bill Clinton signed the Family Medical Leave Act, which requires employers of more than 50 workers to grant 12 weeks of unpaid leave in the case of a family illness or injury without worrying about being fired while they're gone. This was controversial at the time, and has caused hardship on some smaller and medium sized companies, but for the most part it's been a decent accomodation; mothers of newborns, caregivers of sick family members, etc. have been able to take time off work to deal with family emergencies. Putting aside, for the moment, the nanny-state invasiveness of it all, at least it's helped families.
Liberals are never content to leave "un-Constitutional alone," and they're now pushing for full-blown, paid family leave. For 12 weeks. Liberals want to force businesses to give employees 3 months of paid time off. There are so many things wrong with this I hardly know where to start, but here are a few.
For starters, it's blatantly un-Constitutional to force a business to pay somebody for not working. Additionally, it's about as anti-business a measure as one could fathom; companies aren't just being asked to protect the jobs of people with family health issues, but to actively pay them for taking time off. This is a horrible, devastatingly destructive plan.
This is mostly being pushed by Feminists who think they're unfairly discriminated against for taking maternity leave (It's not fair that Bob should get paid just because he's in the office for that 12 weeks and I'm not!). Because Feminists are idiots, they don't see the danger this poses to female advancement in the work place.
Think about it; if you're a business owner and you're struggling to make a profit, who would you prefer having in your employ- a woman who might cost you for 12 weeks of paid maternity leave, or a man who won't? This is called the Law of Unintended Consequences, and it plagues all Liberal schemes.
Universal Child Care
Feminists, who fully believe that motherhood is an oppressive, patriarchical construct used to destroy women's lives rather than the greatest gift a person can have, want the Federal Government to pay for somebody else to take care of their children. Because the Federal Government is apparently an unending source of cash, and because the Constitution totally allows for a proposal like this.
A Federal Abortion Law
In 1988, the Supreme Court ruled in Webster vs. Reproductive Health Services that abortion should be, and can be regulated by the states. As we pointed out a while back, more and more states are starting to do the right thing and reducing the number of abortion clinics while implementing reasonable restrictions on the practice.
Because Liberals are spoiled children who don't much care about the Constitution and don't understand Federalism (the idea that people should govern themselves as locally as possible), they're screaming and yelling not only for Obama to veto a planned Republican abortion bill, but to create a law guaranteeing abortion on demand in all states, at all times. Oh, and they want the Federal Government to pay for abortion on demand, whenever, whereever. Because the one thing we need to do is kill more babies.
End Rape Forever
Feminists don't understand that rapists, like other violent criminals, are just bad people doing bad things. They think rape is some sort of ritual practiced by woman-hating, er, womyn-hating men who are desperately trying to protect the "Patriarchy." So, they're all crying and clamoring for Sugar Daddy Barack to somehow save them from all other evil, nasty men. Because the President can totally just stop rape by saying so.
Emma Sulkowitz, the bimbo from Columbia University who's been dragging around the mattress on which she claimed to have been raped, will be in attendance. Expect her to get a shout out, complete with some meaningless platitudes about rape culture. Expect Imbecile-in-Chief to trot out the phony meme about 1 in 5 women having been raped, too.
I'll be shocked if Obama actually makes any of these promises tonight. He's already promised to soak the rich, raising income tax levels to ludicrous levels, so he'll likely spend much of his time blathering on about that.
Don't hold your breath for him to mention terrorism, national security, his administration's gross abuses of privacy, or anything else of substance.
Typically, a speech like tonight's would be cause for rage, but instead I'll have a glass of wine and just laugh along. None of what Obama proposes tonight will come to pass, and he knows that. He's just not honest enough to admit it.
