When atheists pressured the Michigan legislature into passing a law making it difficult to place Christian displays such as Nativity scenes at the statehouse in Lansing, the predictable happened: atheists used the occasion to mock Christianity.
The revised law in Michigan allows for religious-themed holiday displays at government buildings such as the state capitol, but requires they be removed each night. It's a ridiculous law, obviously. Allowing displays during the day but not overnight has no impact on whether they offend anybody; this policy only serves to inconvenience those who place the displays.
As you might expect, this effectively killed the Michigan Nativity display. It can take several hours to assemble and remove a Nativity. Few people have that kind of time.
Here's where atheists thought they won the battle. There's a group called the Satanic Temple which, unlike the better known Church of Satan, isn't comprised of Satan worshippers. The Satanic Temple is an atheist activist group, that uses the cover of religion to attack public expressions of Christianity wherever they can be demanding equal consideration. These trolls aren't demanding equality for their beliefs, because they don't actually have any. They simply hate Christians, and want to irritate them. (How obnoxious do you have to be before Satan worshippers seem decent in comparison?)
Like most liberal Social Justice Warriors, the idiots in charge of The Satanic Temple have plenty of time on their hands. They announced that they would place a Satanic display at the capitol building during the Christmas season, because it's not as though they have jobs that would keep them from being able to set it up and remove it each day. The disgusting display consists of a snake wrapped around a crucifix and holding a book.
Michigan Senator Rick Jones has become a hero in his state by stepping up when needed most. On behalf of Michigan's citizenry, Jones promised to ensure that a Christian Nativity display will appear in its rightful spot at the capitol throughout the Christmas season, promising to have it removed each night and replaced each morning. Hundreds of citizens volunteered to help Jones.
The display was unveiled on the capitol's east lawn yesterday to a cheering crowd. The Satanic Temple's display makes its arrival tomorrow.
We should all note what happened here, because it's emblematic of the Left's ultimate goal. They struck out at Christians through the legislature and demanded some version of what they called "equality," then used the legislation to gain the upper hand. Liberals don't want all voices to be heard, and they don't want freedom for all to believe as they choose. They want their views and their voice to reign supreme, and use whatever tactic necessary to silence opposing ideas and beliefs. They claim to support separation of church and state, but demand supremacy.
Freedom is fragile, and it's under attack. Thanks to good men and women like Senator Rick Jones, the atheist activists haven't won yet. Don't let them. Vote. Write to your public officials. Stand up to Liberals who try to silence you, and others. Be strong.
